Improving land: the narrative that justified dispossession
Anteceded by the word “urban,” the term planning tends to awaken positive responses due to the narrative constructed around it.
How can urban planning, an activity that creates and sustains urban areas, be beneficial if it inherently needs to harm the environment to exist?
How can urban planning be beneficial if it needs the seizing of land from its original stewards to have a place to do urban planning activities?
urban planning is inherently harmful because it was born as a tool of colonization, and there is no way to decolonize the profession, given that the profession upholds the current land system.
The only solution to reverse and undo the harm done by urban planning and urbanization in colonized geographies is to give Land Back to Indigenous Peoples.
